Obama promised to protect whistleblowers, instead he turned into their worst nightmare.

President Obama's recent commuting of the prison time of whistleblower Chelsea Manning makes people in the media and in general disregard the atrocious conduct and persecution Obama has shown in his relentless persecution of American whistleblowers during his 8 yeas in office. This was in stark contrast to his pre election promises to "protect" American whistleblowers, whom he referred to as being "patriots". Obama's 2008 pre election stance on whistleblowers was actually documented on his own website Change.gov in the "agenda" section: "We need to empower federal employees as watchdogs of wrongdoing and partners in performance. Barack Obama will strengthen whistleblower laws to protect federal workers who expose waste, fraud, and abuse of authority in government. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled." Recently that part has been removed from the website, but a previously archived version of it remains. Why was it removed? Maybe because it exposes the extent of lies and hypocrisy President Obama is capable of. In reality Obama not only went back on his word, he literally became the whistleblowers worst nightmare. Since Barack Obama entered the White House in 2009, his government has waged a war against whistleblowers and official leakers. On his watch, there have been eight prosecutions under the 1917 Espionage Act – more than double those under all previous presidents combined. Only ten people in American history have been charged with espionage for leaking classified information, seven of them under Barack Obama. So when it comes to protecting American whistleblowers who expose corruption, abuse of power and US government's crimes, Obama, despite his promises, proved to be the worst president in US history when it came to prosecuting American whistleblowers.
